Crops destroyed, losses unpaid, now code woes haunt villagers

Residents of 400 villages in Khargone and Barwani districts are angry over the lack of compensation they have received after flash floods caused significant damage to their crops and farmland. The local administration had assessed the damage and decided on a compensation of Rs 14 crore, but the distribution was hindered by the election code of conduct. Villagers blame the floods on the opening of dam gates on the Narmada river without warning. Politicians and social workers have visited the affected areas to assess the situation.
