Top 10 Bollywood films on heists

Happy New Year: Shah Rukh Khan and his Happy New Year team will steal more than your hearts this Diwali. The film directed by Farah Khan promises to be a heist comedy. The movie which is touted to be a blockbuster looking at its stellar starcast is about six losers who try to rob diamonds at a dance competition. The film's poster that was released much in advance has the starcast of the movie standing on the edge of a huge locker. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff. Happy New Year is produced by Shah Rukh Khan's wife Gauri Khan.

Dhoom: Released in the year 2004, Dhoom has become one of Bollywood's most memorable film franchise today. Dhoom is the story of a brave police officer played by Abhishek Bachchan, who takes the help of a local mechanic played by Uday Chopra, to catch a gang of thieves led by John Abraham. The film went on to be very successful and has all the ingredients of typical masala film that includes bike-chases and foot-tapping item songs.

Dhoom 2: One of the most awaited films of that year, Dhoom 2 was the second film in the Dhoom franchise and without a doubt it was bigger than its prequel. While the handsome John Abraham played a thief in the first part, heartthrob Hrithik Roshan stepped in to play the baddie in the sequel. Helping Hrithik in his spectacular heists was Aishwarya Rai, whose svelte figure became the talk-of-the-town. Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra reprised their respective roles of Jai and Ali.

Dhoom 3 - The Dhoom franchise got bigger when actor Aamir Khan was roped in for the film. The superstar who is known for his selective films, intrigued his fans when he decided to join the bandwagon as a thief in Dhoom 3. The film broke records at the box-office with its stupendous collections. And with Katrina showing off her dance moves in the 'Kamli' song, Dhoom 3 was another heist movie that set new benchmarks in Bollywood.

Aankhen: Directed by Vipul Shah, Aankhen was based on a bank robbery that had actor Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. The starcast of Aankhen included Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Sushmita Sen and Paresh Rawal. The film was a heist thriller and had actor Amitabh Bachchan lead a team of three blind men to rob the bank he was once worked for. The film was appreciated for its unusual storyline and was liked by critics and cinegoers alike. Aankhen definitely is one of the better heist films that Bollywood has seen so far.

Cash: Another Bollywood film based on a heist, Cash with an ensemble starcast falls into this list as well. Although, the film's commercial report card is nothing to boast of, this Anubhav Sinha directed film had a stellar starcast including the likes of Ajay Devgn, Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, Sunil Shetty, Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty; Cash is about group of thieves led by Ajay Devgn who plan to steal diamonds. Although, the film was made on a big budget, it failed to impress the audience and bombed at the box-office.

Bunty Aur Babli: This is a love story of two thieves Bunty (Abhishek Bachchan) and Babli (Rani Mukerji). Directed by Shaad Ali, Bunty Aur Babli was an entertaining film which had the lead couple fool people in a series of interesting robberies. But the most interesting one is when they sell The Taj Mahal to a foreign couple. Apart from the heists, the film also has Amitabh Bachchan as a police officer and a very popular item number 'Kajra Re' by Aishwarya Rai. Bunty Aur Babli surely gets included in our list of coolest heists in Hindi films ever!

Players: Having starred in many heist films, actor Abhishek Bachchan has by now become the master of this genre. He starred in another heist film called Players which, unlike the actor's other ventures, didn't do well at the box-office. The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Bobby Deol, Sikander Kher and Omi Vaidya. The film is a remake of the Hollywood blockbuster The Italian Job. The film that was released in 2012 was one of the most awaited releases of the year but failed to create an impact and bombed at the box-office.

Bluffmaster!: Abhishek Bachchan plays a conman in Rohan Sippy's film Bluffmaster!. The film also stars Priyanka Chopra, Riteish Deshmukh, Nana Patekar and Boman Irani. Abhishek plays a conman who is the master of his game. While he is diagnosed with a life-threatening tumour, Abhishek Bachchan who plays the role of Roy Kapoor, decides to help Dittu played by Riteish Deshmukh to take revenge from a man who duped his father and many others of their life savings. Bluffmaster!, that besides being appreciated by the critics, also did well commercially. It is apparently based on an Argentinian film Nine Queens.
