Too high a ransom for this one!

From a script that started out well and could have been a taut thriller, the movie sadly disappoints.
Too high a ransom for this one!

1x1 polls
but the ransom is of a different kind this time. <br /><br />Setting: Zooming in and out of Mumbai and Nasik. <br /><br />Ajay Devgan as a bad man is a good show... only wish the director had maintained tighter rein over the story. The movie starts off pretty promisingly. <br /><br />Shekhar (Devgan) is a has-been rally driver who has changed streams and is now racing on the wrong side of the law. He uses his driving skills to help criminals escape. <br /><br />On his c(h)ase is then sub-inspector now ACP Rathore (Shetty), who swears he will catch Shekhar. He does too. Only that in the chor-police game, Shekhar''s pregnant wife Anjali (Diya) dies and Shekhar is locked up for eight years. <br /><br />Eight years later, Shekhar has revenge on his mind. And so does a particular bhai (Mukesh Rishi) who pays Shekhar to kill Rathore. Things go pretty smoothly till here, and there are some really enjoyable moments too. <br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div align="center" style="position:relative; left: -2"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="center" border="1" width="70.3%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" f3f3f3=""> <div class="Normal"><img src="/photo/1003918.cms" alt="/photo/1003918.cms" border="0" /></div> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="Normal"><script language="javascript">doweshowbellyad=0; </script><br /><br />The sequences where Shekhar is psyching out Rathore have been done very well. Despite there being a couple of songs here, there is no break in the narrative as the director does not let go of the pace and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.<br /><br />It''s a game of one up-manship and Shekhar is clearly leading. Till he learns that his wife had given birth to a child before she died, and the only person who knows about his baby is Rathore.<br /><br />Shekhar kidnaps Rathore''s son Jigar and in ransom demands to know the whereabouts of his kid. <br /><br />The child artiste who plays Jigar does justice to his role. There are some cute moments between Devgan and the child. So far so good. The movie is still going fine... till Rathore shares a secret with his wife. <br /><br />From then on, the director simply lets go of the movie. What could have been a taut script and an enjoyable thriller, mindlessly gets embroiled in emotions, fatherly love and sermons.<br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section3"><div align="center" style="position:relative; left: -2"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="center" border="1" width="70.3%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" f3f3f3=""> <div class="Normal"><img src="/photo/1003926.cms" alt="/photo/1003926.cms" border="0" /></div> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="Normal"><script language="javascript">doweshowbellyad=0; </script><br /><br />It would be redundant to say that the women are merely props. Diya comes, cries and dies. Priyanka, pouts, sighs and forgets to cry where she''s needed to. It wouldn''t have made an iota of a difference if the two weren''t there. <br /><br />Devgan is good as the bad man, absolutely uncomfortable in the romantic scenes and unconvincing as the pining father. The crook to changed-heart transition is too abrupt. <br /><br />Shetty is either stone-faced or, well, stone-faced. No great shakes there either. Mukesh Rishi as the supposedly fear-inspiring don, inspired neither fear nor anything else. <br /><br />Apart from the script, the movie uses a lot of slow motion in its fight scenes. In fact, all the fight scenes are in slow motion. It gets a little painful. <br /><br />Same goes for some of the special effects, especially the bullets zipping past. Right intentions, but till the time we can''t get past tacky, let''s not try please. <br /><br />All in all, just about time pass. </div> </div>
