Bhagat was recognised by TOISA for his twin gold medals at the 2019 Para-Badminton World Championships in the men's singles (SL3 category) and men's doubles (SL3-4).

"I met a lot of icons of Indian sports at the TOISA ceremony. It was overwhelming," he said.

"Thank you for nominating me for the TOISA and finally I managed to win the award as well. My message for young players would be to keep doing the hard work, your success depends on that. The more hard work you put in the more successful you will become," the 31-year-old Arjuna awardee, who started his badminton career in 2006, said.
