Lyricist-scriptwriter-poet Javed Akhtar, who was prevented by Muslim organisation from speaking in Kolkata because he is an atheist, explains why he’s opposed to a religious community claiming ownership of a language.
After an event in Kolkata was cancelled over lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar being invited, writer Taslim Nasreen wrote on X about how he had once helped organise her book launch in Mumbai in 2000 despite religious groups threatening violence.
“Today, however, there is no Javed Akhtar to bring Javed Akhtar to Kolkata and defeat the fundamentalists,” she wrote in the post.
