The 44-year-old sarpanch of a village in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra was at a toll booth on December 9, 2024 when a vehicle blocked his SUV. At least one of the occupants of the vehicle was allegedly a person he knew from a scuffle days ago in the village.
The sarpanch - 44-year-old Santosh Deshmukh - was pulled out of his vehicle and taken away in the vehicle that had intercepted him. For a few hours, he was untraceable. When the police found him, he was badly injured. He was taken to a hospital but was declared dead.
