In India, the pace of legal change is generally slow. Yet, when change takes place, it is often radical, and overturns long-held assumptions. Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code was one such example. Now, Gujarat state assembly too has passed a similar uniform family code. More BJP-governed states may follow suit.
