The footballer-turned-politician who switched from Congress to BJP has been battling calls for his resignation with the state on the boil for 19 months now

Demands for Manipur chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh’s resignation have intensified with each surge in unrest in the ongoing crisis in the state. Both the Meitei-dominated valley and tribals in the hills have railed against Singh’s leadership since the violence started 19 months back.
