India, from the time of Jawaharlal Nehru, has never accepted the 1963 agreement under which Pakistan illegally ceded part of Indian territory to China. More recently, New Delhi has formally objected to China’s infrastructure build-up in the Shaksgam Valley in PoK

When India today calls China’s activities in the Shaksgam Valley “illegal”, it is echoing a warning issued by the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on the floor of Parliament more than six decades ago.

India, Nehru made clear at the time, rejected the entire exercise — a reference to the 1963 agreement under which Pakistan had illegally handed over a part of India’s territory in Jammu and Kashmir to China.
