India ranks 91st out of 182 countries and territories, up from 96th last year, thanks to reform traction in certain governance sectors. But it also highlights persistent structural vulnerabilities that continue to influence corruption perceptions

India has registered a modest upward movement on the global anti-corruption chart, improving both its rank and score in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025. However, the global outlook remains grim — shaped by democratic backsliding, growing threats to journalists, and weakening institutional oversight.

In the latest index released on February 10, India ranked 91st out of 182 countries and territories, up from 96th in 2026. India’s score also rose by one point, according to the anti-graft campaign group’s annual assessment.
