The Supreme Court has set a number of new guidelines that must be followed in all cases where a person could get the death penalty



In a landmark move that could change how the death penalty is awarded, the Supreme Court effectively added another safeguard before the state is allowed to take a life. Data shows that, over a decade, 90% of cases in which trial courts awarded convicts death sentences, the verdicts were reversed by high courts or the Supreme Court.
