Right to disconnect: Will Kerala change India’s office culture?

The ping of a late-night email, a WhatsApp message demanding immediate response on a Sunday, a video-call scheduled at 8 pm because “it’s convenient in the US time-zone” — for many private-sector professionals, the workday rarely ends after eight hours.
But in a move that could redefine work–life balance in India, Kerala is moving to introduce the Right to Disconnect Bill 2025, aimed at legally protecting private sector employees from demands after work hours.
