In a landmark judgment reaffirming the primacy of individual liberty over societal disapproval, the Allahabad High Court has held that interfaith couples in consensual live-in relationships are entitled to police protection. The court underscored that the right to choose a partner — regardless of religion or the institution of marriage — is a “sacrosanct” fundamental right that the State is bound to safeguard.
