A multinational crackdown was launched on cybercrime centres in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region following reports of foreign nationals, including Indians, being forced into fraudulent operations led by crime syndicates, particularly those with links to Chinese-run scams

“We are requesting Indian authorities in Bangkok to shift us to India as early as possible,” K Madhukar Reddy from Telangana told TOI over the phone from Mae Sot, a Thai border town, on February 23.
