Two deadly highway crashes have sparked scrutiny of immigrant drivers in the US. For thousands of Sikh truckers, the fallout is deeply personal — a struggle to preserve dignity, faith and livelihood in the face of rising scrutiny

The American dream for thousands of Sikh immigrants from India is under strain after a fatal trucking accident on October 21, 2025 on a California freeway that left three dead.

The truck driver, Jashanpreet Singh, an employee of Sandhu Transport, was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence (DUI), what in India is referred to as drunk driving.
