Six months after a youth-led uprising toppled a powerful prime minister, Nepal heads into a pivotal election that could redefine its political order. With no clear majority in sight and coalition politics looming, voters must decide whether the anger of the streets can translate into lasting institutional reform.

Nepal goes to the polls in what is widely seen as its most consequential election since the end of the civil war in 2006 — and the first since last September’s dramatic, youth-led uprising that toppled a sitting prime minister in just two days.

Six months later, however, accountability remains elusive. Two commissions investigating the crackdown have yet to release their findings. No convictions have been secured over the September violence.
