Sheikh Hasina’s death sentence will have surprised none. She and her family, her party colleagues and her workers across Bangladesh, her friends and foes at home and abroad – everyone saw this coming.
Nobody expected a fair trial, an adequate opportunity of defence for the deposed leader. Revenge by use of law has become the new normal in post-Hasina Bangladesh and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has presided over Bangladesh’s descent into a vendetta republic.
