Indigo turbulence: Why pre-monsoon is the most dangerous time to fly

Some of the most hazardous weather activity that a plane can run into – including the formation of Cumulonimbus clouds taller than Mount Everest or a weather condition pilots know as Kal Baisakhi – occurs when earth sends up gusts of hot air into the sky



An IndiGo Delhi-Srinagar flight encountered severe turbulence last week that left the aircraft with a hole in its nose, but the passengers and crew weathered it without injuries.
