Medical aspirants will write NEET-UG again on June 21, as CBI investigates the leak of the NEET question paper, 42 hours before the May 3 exam, which was cancelled on May 12. This was, per media reports, the 89th public exam test paper leaked, or suspected to have been leaked in the last decade. For each, a case was filed and/or re-tests undertaken.

Around 120 of 180 questions, in the leaked paper that Rajasthan police recovered this year, matched the actual exam. None of what has followed – CBI probe, arrests of ‘masterminds’, MOs – is unfamiliar. But the administrative explanation has worn thin. Tighter security and better protocols have been govt’s answer through every cycle. The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, in force since June 2024, has produced no convictions.
