By early 2027, a manufacturing unit in Karnataka will start rolling out H125, the world’s only chopper capable of flying to Mount Everest. This will help cater to the Indian armed forces’ requirement for a light multi-role helicopter for high-altitude ops

India’s push for self-reliance in aerospace manufacturing capability received a major boost with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron virtually inaugurating the final assembly line for the H125 light utility helicopter at Vemagal in Karnataka.

This is the first time India’s private sector will execute the full lifecycle of helicopter production — spanning manufacturing, integration, testing, delivery, and maintenance of a globally certified rotary-wing platform.
“We take pride in the fact that, together, India and France will manufacture in India the world’s only helicopter capable of flying to the heights of Mount Everest and export it to the entire world,” Modi told reporters after the inauguration on February 17.
