After dismantling Pakistan’s air defence assets, India launched a ‘series of spectacular strikes’ against Pakistan’s principal air bases — actions that, according to the Switzerland-based Centre d’Histoire et de Prospective Militaires, were not merely symbolic but operationally decisive

The strong performance of India’s integrated air defence network, combined with simultaneous precision strikes by the Indian Air Force (IAF) deep inside Pakistan, were key factors that compelled Islamabad to seek a ceasefire during the May 2025 conflict, according to an analysis by a European think tank.

The report by the Switzerland-based Centre d’Histoire et de Prospective Militaires (CHPM) characterises the confrontation as a high-intensity conventional clash carrying serious risks of escalation. Unlike earlier episodes marked by limited skirmishes or symbolic actions, the conflict that lasted for just 88 hours between May 7 and May 10, 2025 involved sustained air operations, deep-strike missions, and direct engagements between two technologically advanced air forces.
