In a pattern that has become familiar over the past few years, a key Lashkar-e-Taiba leader was killed by unknown gunmen just days after another one survived an assassination attempt

Sheikh Yousaf Afridi, a key Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) figure and close aide of the organisation’s chief Hafiz Saeed, was regarded as an important operational link in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Afridi was reportedly involved in recruitment and coordination for the group’s activities in the region.

On April 26, he was shot dead in Landi Kotal in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region by unidentified gunmen. Investigators have treated the incident as a targeted killing, but no group has claimed responsibility so far.
