What is Bluesky, that’s now a favourite of ex-X users?

Users are leaving Elon Musk's X for Bluesky over American politics

It has the same DNA as the Elon Musk-owned platform formerly known as Twitter, which many American users are now quitting after complaining of a drop in standards

Last week, Washington Post carried an article ‘Liberals are fleeing X again — this time for Bluesky’. The article, quoting the analytics firm Similarweb, says, “Elon Musk’s X drew more web traffic on the day Donald Trump won the presidential election than on any other day so far this year. It also broke its 2024 record for users lost in a single day.”

And these users are flocking to Bluesky, a newer social media platform founded by Jack Dorsey, who had launched Twitter with two others in 2006. Musk bought Twitter in 2022, and soon renamed it X. And this year, Musk, the world’s richest man, used his money and the Twitter platform to promote Trump — something that didn’t go down well with the anti-Trump crowd.
