At the Grammys this year, Bad Bunny did something rather unfashionable by pop-star standards. He stayed seated. For a few long seconds after his name was announced, his hand covering his face before he got to his feet and walked towards the stage, still visibly flustered by the moment. Then he spoke. Almost entirely in Spanish.

Bad Bunny had just become the first artist to win the Grammys’ top prize for an album sung entirely in Spanish. “Puerto Rico, believe me when I say we’re way bigger than 100 by 35,” he said, referring to the Caribbean island’s modest size. “There is nothing we can’t accomplish.”
