Monabi Mitra is an author, professor of English and a lover of words. Her works include translations of contemporary Bengali writing into English, of which the novel ‘The Fakir’ (Harper Perennial) was shortlisted for The Hindu Literary Prize in 2011. Her three-novel DSP Bikram police procedural series (Penguin India) is set in Calcutta and depicts the realistic world of the police force and its workings.
