A few years after the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League in 2008, the idea for a women’s version of the same was mooted.
The thought gathered momentum following a women’s T20 challenge held in 2018 ahead of the IPL qualifiers. The league came into existence on Saturday as the finest women cricketers from across the world have come together with raw talent from India for the five-team Women’s Premier League.
