108408310 EP1: Sachin Tendulkar: 10 things you probably didn’t know about the God of cricketIn this episode of Batman@50, we will talk about some very fascinating and lesser known trivia about Sachin Tendulkar with Vikas Singh, The Times of India’s Executive Editor and a sports enthusiast who has followed Sachin very closely. This is part 1 of our conversation. Sachin’s first headline Vikas starts off with how Sachin Tendulkar bagged his first headline during his days of being a cricketer at school and how his coach gave him an earful for making it happen via unfair means. Sachin’s Ranji Trophy debut He then moved on to how Sachin scored a “golden duck” at his Ranji Trophy debut, with his colony neighbours in attendance in the stadium. A golden duck refers to being dismissed on the first ball itself. Vikas also spoke about how it took Sachin 7 deliveries to score his first run in the following match. Sachin’s uncle and aunt Vikas’s early memories of Sachin include one which is not so well known, which is that he stayed for almost four years with his uncle and aunt because he used to practise in Shivaji Park and how his aunt helped him hone his defence by making him bat indoors. Anjali and Sachin The next story involves how Anjali first met Sachin Tendulkar at the airport, when Sachin was only 16 years old and had scored his first century. Vikas recalled how later Anjali procured Sachin’s phone number through her friends in the cricket circuit. Sachin’s disguise on a date To help keep their burgeoning affair under wraps, Vikas recalled how Anjali had to pose as a sports reporter to visit him at his place and how Sachin had to wear a fake moustache and sunglasses so they could go on dates. That was part 1 of our conversation with Vikas Singh, The Times of India’s Executive Editor who has followed Sachin Tendulkar very closely.
