This year desi internet had plenty to celebrate, something that doesn’t happen every year. The Elephant Whisperers for best Documentary Short and Naatu Naatu for best original song. There was some controversy around the makers of The Elephant Whisperers. Many people noticed that after Kartiki Gonsalves was done with her speech, Guneet Monga was cut off from the stage when she was going to deliver her speech. There was a little bit of social media outrage as well, about how, later, Guneet Monga even thanked her Guruji but barely mentioned the actual adivasi couple who the film was based on. Social media outrage also ensued over the fact that the live performance of Naatu Naatu mostly had non-Indian performers. Some other winning speeches like that of Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan also went viral.
