Greater Noida hit-&-run survivor girl gets help, but culprits may get away

In the final hours of December 31st, when celebrations were in full swing and phones rang with new year wishes from loved ones, Sweety Kumari’s parents at Daniawan village in Patna scrambled to find a train that would take them to Delhi. Sweety, a final-year BTech student, had just been hit from behind by a car on a road in Greater Noida and lay comatose in a hospital with critical head injuries.
This is the story of Sweety, a girl who is on the brink of completing her college to realise a dream she nurtured since school. So what happened on December 31st night? Sweety and her two friends, Karsoni Dong and Anganba, had planned to celebrate their New Year’s Eve with a bonfire at their place in Greater Noida’s Beta 2 area. They stepped out in the afternoon and walked a few hundred metres, looking for bricks for the bonfire. When they were walking back, a car knocked them down. The car sped off before anyone could note its registration number. Karsoni and Anganba regained consciousness soon after, but Sweety did not. Strangers who gathered to help drove them to the hospital.
