With a growing number of Agri-AI start-ups, the agriculture sector in the country, which accounts for 19.9% of India's GDP, is taking baby steps toward technology even though there is a long way to go to transform the lives of India's 150-million farmers
The soil of India is special. It is believed that farming in India started as far back as 9000 BC. According to official estimates, India right now has between 100 and 150 million farmers. The share of agriculture in the GDP has increased to 19.9 per cent in 2020-21 from 17.8 per cent in 2019-20, according to the Economic Survey.
