CLAIMA photo of
Delhi Police personnel helping people stuck on terraces climb down using ladders is being shared with a claim that Delhi cops made rioters climb to the terrace of
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor
Tahir Hussain’s house to wrongly frame him for rioting.
A Twitter user by the name of Afzal Raj shared the photo with a text in Hindi that loosely translates to, “Delhi police helping rioters climb to the roof Councilor Tahir Hussain's house by putting a ladder so that he can be trapped.
Petrol bombs, slingshots, stones, etc are being placed on the roof to frame Hussain. Let’s all come on Twitter today at 5 pm to trend #WeSupportTahirHussain hashtag.”
Another Twitter user Nadeem Malik made a similar claim.
TRUTHThe photo shows Delhi Police officials carrying out rescue operations in a violence-ridden area of the city. It has nothing to do with Tahir Hussain or his house.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYUsing keywords ‘Delhi Police ladder’ on Twitter, we found a tweet posted by journalist Kamaljit Sandhu on February 27. The tweet carried a long shot video of Delhi Police helping people climb down from the terrace of a building using a ladder.
Praising Delhi Police, Sandhu claimed that the video showed police personnel rescuing 13 persons during riots. They used a step ladder to reach civilians trapped. The video was shot in Shastri Park, North East Delhi on February 24, 2020.
The wall and the visual appeared similar to the photo shared in the claim above.
We also found a tweet from AAP MP
Sanjay Singh which had a video of the same rescue operation by Delhi Police from a closer angle.
Singh tweeted the video with a text that reads -- “Protecting people in the violence-ridden village area. Delhi Police is full of brave young men.”
The photo shared with the false claim of Delhi Police framing above seems to have been taken as a screengrab from this video tweeted by Singh.
VERDICTTimes Fact Check has found that photo of Delhi Police rescuing civilians during Delhi violence is being shared with the false claim that Delhi Police were planting evidence on the terrace of Tahir Hussain’s house to frame him for rioting.
