CLAIM

Many social media users are sharing a photo of IPS officer D Roopa Moudgil with a false claim that she refused to accept an award given by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government.

Sample these:

Those who are spreading this false claim also attributed a fake quote to Roopa. With captions written in Hindi along with Roopa's photo or as text content in graphic cards placed alongside the photo, these posts basically say -"IPS officer Roopa Yadav refused to accept an award given by Modi government," and quotes her as saying, "My conscience doesn't allow me to accept an award given by the Party that has a newly-elected MP who insulted Gallantry-award winning martyr

Hemant Karkare

."

In these posts, Roopa is referred to as Roopa Yadav.

Roopa's photo is being shared by many Twitter users as well, with the same false claim.

TRUTH
D Roopa rubbished the fake news herself with a tweet from her verified Twitter handle.

Quoting one of the Twitter users who made the false claim about her, Roopa said, "Clarifying this-- firstly there's no such award for cops. We get President's Police Medal. I have already got President's Police medal for meritorious service. Pic is mine. But surname mentioned is incorrect."

Roopa, recipient of President's Medal for meritorious service in September, 2017, was former Deputy Inspector General of Prisons in Karnataka. TOI carried a report on this.
