NEW DELHI: They may be overshadowed by the much-talked about Metro but for the majority of students who plan to steer clear of the seedy Blueline Mudrikas and rely on U-specials, there's good news. Three new U-specials have been put on track already and there's promise of more. There is also a new bus pass counter at Najafgarh's Bhagini Nivedita College. Of the three, there is also an evening special — the first evening special in the university — that plies between South Campus and Najafgarh at 6.45 pm.
Said Ragini Nayak, Delhi University Students' Union president: "So far, U-specials have only catered to students going to college in the regular hours. There isn't any special for students going to evening colleges and we were determined to get such specials started."
In addition to the evening U-special, there are two more. One that plies between North Campus and Najafgarh, the second, between North Campus and Mehrauli at 3.30 pm. All the three specials have already started a couple of months ago. Apart from these, there is also a DTC bus counter at DU's Bhagini Nivedita College in Najafgarh. This has been a long-standing demand of college students, who had to come all the way to DU or look for other DTC counters, to get their passes made. "Since the college is in a remote corner of the city, students wanted a counter, which has now been built. It will be operative from this July itself," added Nayak. In fact, the union has planned to get about seven more U-specials started.
