The state of Telangana was carved in 2014 and Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) swept to power winning 63 seats in the 119 member assembly. When chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao called for early elections, most political pundits hailed it as a masterstroke and were predicting an outright win for TRS. But the election appears to be going down to the wire after Congress and TDP formed an alliance with CPI and smaller parties to consolidate the anti-incumbency vote. In 2014, TRS had won big in north Telangana but had lost out in south Telangana and regions which are closer to Andhra Pradesh.
