Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are all set to tie knot on June 24. The $10 million wedding will take place in Venice, Italy. However, the lavish wedding is facing a lot of backlash and protest from angry Venetians. As reported by New York Times, local residents are escalating their protests and promising to take some drastic measures to disrupt the most-talked wedding. Federica Toninello, a protest organizer told NYT that Bezos will never get to reach Misericordia and revealed that nearly 300 people are present to disrupt his path. At a public gathering near the Rialto Bridge, protesters declared their intent to “line the streets with our bodies” and “block the canals with lifesavers and boats” during the wedding festivities scheduled for June 24–26. The $10 million celebration, planned on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, has triggered protests over blocked streets, luxury hotel takeovers, and environmental concerns, threatening to disrupt the Floating City during its peak tourist season.

Venetians are furious over the scale of the wedding, which has led to Jeff Bezos reserving five opulent hotels and every water taxi in the city, per a Daily Mail report. Enhanced security measures, including a heavy police presence, closed streets, and restricted airspace, are expected to accommodate an A-list guest list of celebrities, politicians, and business tycoons. The disruptions coincide with Venice’s busiest travel period, exacerbating tensions in a city already strained by mass tourism.

As per the report, the new threats emerged from a gathering of locals near the Rialto Bridge on Friday, June 13, 2025. At the gathering the organisers pledged a series of protests from June 26 to June 28. The scheduled protests will coincide with the wedding festivities of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.

The protest which is led by the activist group No Space for Bezos, argues that the lavish wedding of Jeff Bezos is turning the city into a playground for the ultra-wealthy. “We have to block Bezos; we have to block this idea of this city,” said protester Federica Toninello, referencing the rising cost of living and overtourism that have displaced many Venetians.

Last week, various banners with a message ‘No Space for Bezos’ were unfurled at various historical landmarks in the city.
