‘TikTok deal meets 2024 law requirements’: What House says President Donald Trump will sign order this week
President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order later this week that will declare a deal for TikTok's US operations to be divested from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, meets the requirements of a 2024 law, a White House official announced on Monday (September 22).
Citing the White official, news agency Reuters reported that the US is confident that China has approved the agreement and does not intend to hold further detailed discussions with Beijing. However, the official noted that additional paperwork from both sides is necessary to finalise the deal's approval.
The President also confirmed that he and Xi Jinping will meet again at the APEC Summit scheduled for November in South Korea, and that he will make an early visit to China next year.
“I also agreed with President Xi that we would meet at the APEC Summit in South Korea, that I would go to China in the early part of next year, and that President Xi would, likewise, come to the United States at an appropriate time,” Trump wrote.
Trump, China’s Xi Jinping meet to discuss TikTok deal
Last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Trump talked and following a “very productive” call, the two leaders had made significant progress on a range of key issues, including the approval of the TikTok deal. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, "We made progress on many very important issues including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal."The President also confirmed that he and Xi Jinping will meet again at the APEC Summit scheduled for November in South Korea, and that he will make an early visit to China next year.
“I also agreed with President Xi that we would meet at the APEC Summit in South Korea, that I would go to China in the early part of next year, and that President Xi would, likewise, come to the United States at an appropriate time,” Trump wrote.
Trump has delayed TikTok deal deadline multiple times
Trump has been delaying the enforcement of this law until mid-December to allow for the complex process of separating TikTok's US assets from its global platform, securing American investors, and ensuring the new ownership structure qualifies as a complete divestiture as required by the 2024 legislation.Popular from Technology
