The AI chatbot, known for writing everything from poems to press releases, was asked to suggest a possible ending for the romantic drama. While AI tools have been used in marketing and promotions, their role in shaping the climax of a major Bollywood film is still rare. The experiment sparked excitement in the writing room, but also raised questions. Could an AI-written ending truly capture the emotion, pacing, and cultural depth the story demanded? And more importantly, would the filmmakers actually use it?

Saiyaara team turned to ChatGPT for the perfect ending

The Saiyaara team had been debating how to close the film for weeks. Multiple versions were drafted, but none seemed to hit the perfect balance between drama and realism. As a creative exercise, one of the assistant writers suggested asking ChatGPT for ideas. The team entered a detailed prompt outlining the characters’ journeys, emotional stakes, and the conflicts leading up to the climax. Within seconds, ChatGPT generated three different endings: each written in polished, dialogue-heavy scenes.

The AI-generated ending that almost happened

One of ChatGPT’s versions immediately caught the team’s attention. It suggested a bittersweet conclusion where the lead couple part ways at the train station, exchanging a final smile before boarding different trains. The idea mirrored classic Bollywood romance tropes while keeping a modern, understated tone. Some team members felt the AI ending had a surprising emotional pull, especially considering it came from a machine that had never experienced love or heartbreak.

Why the filmmakers chose a different path

Despite its appeal, the AI’s version didn’t make it to the final cut. The director explained that while ChatGPT’s scene was “technically sound,” it lacked the subtle cultural nuances and emotional buildup the story needed. The team also felt that relying on AI for such a crucial moment might overshadow the human storytelling that Bollywood thrives on. Instead, they chose an ending that kept the emotional intensity but deepened character arcs in a way that felt more authentic to the narrative they had built from day one.
