Tata-owned BigBasket is making this change to its main app, CEO reveals plan

BigBasket, the Tata-owned online grocery platform, is set to merge its subscription service BBdaily into its main app. CEO Hari Menon revealed the plans in an interview with MoneyControl, highlighting the company's move towards a unified quick commerce model.

The company currently operates two separate apps: BigBasket for general grocery orders and BBdaily for subscription-based deliveries. Within the main BigBasket app, users can choose between slotted 2-3 hour deliveries (BigBasket Supersaver) and 10-20 minute deliveries (BBnow).

"BBdaily, the subscription service from Tata's BigBasket, which runs as a separate app currently will be merged into the main BigBasket app over the coming months," Menon told MoneyControl.

The upcoming changes will eliminate these divisions, creating a single, comprehensive app. Menon emphasised that this move is "part of BigBasket's larger move of entirely moving away from slotted 2-3 hour deliveries towards the 10-20 minute delivery model, and becoming a pure play quick commerce company."

This consolidation reflects BigBasket's broader strategy to transition entirely to a quick commerce model, phasing out slotted 2-3 hour deliveries in favour of 10-20 minute delivery windows.

According to Menon, the revamp will serve multiple purposes. It aims to reduce friction for customers navigating between different services and provide a more accurate representation of BigBasket's market share and scale within the competitive quick commerce landscape.

The merger of BBdaily into the main app is expected to take place over the coming months, though an exact timeline was not specified.
