Sam Altman responds to Elon Musk's 'stealing' charge; says: You know as well ...
Sam Altman has publicly slammed Elon Musk after the Tesla CEO accused him of "stealing" a non-profit company. The latest war of words began when Altman shared screenshots of him cancelling his Tesla but not able to do it. Musk also commented on a post in which Altman defended OpenAI's $1.4 trillion spending against its "more revenue" claim on a podcast over the weekend. Altman asserted that he and his team were responsible for building the company into its current success after Musk had departed.
“I really was excited for the car! And I understand delays. But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait,” Altman added.
“You stole a non-profit,” Musk replied on the post.
Altman hit back by saying, “I helped turn the thing you left for dead into what should be the largest non-profit ever.”
“You know as well as anyone a structure like what OpenAI has now is required to make that happen,” he added while offering a ‘peace truce’ in a separate post.
Altman said that the company is “doing well more revenue than that.”
“We do plan for revenue to grow steeply. Revenue is growing steeply,” he said, adding, “This is the bet that we're making and we're taking a risk along with that. A certain risk is if we don't have the compute, we will not be able to generate the revenue or make the models at this kind of scale.”
To this Musk replied, “They need to change their name to ClosedForMaximumMoneyAI.”
How the latest feud between Elon Musk and Sam Altman started
Last week, Altman shared three screenshots with the first one showing him ordering Tesla on July 11, 2018. The second screenshot showed him cancelling his reservation 7.5 years after ordering it and the third one showed an error message.“I really was excited for the car! And I understand delays. But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait,” Altman added.
“You stole a non-profit,” Musk replied on the post.

Musk’s other posts slamming Altman
Musk also targeted the OpenAI CEO over his comments in a podcast with Brad Gerstner, founder of Altimeter Capital. Gerstner asked, “How can OpenAI with $13 billion in revenues make $1.4 trillion of spend commitments?”Altman said that the company is “doing well more revenue than that.”
To this Musk replied, “They need to change their name to ClosedForMaximumMoneyAI.”
