Netflix suffers outage during ‘Stranger Things’ finale premiere

Netflix faced a widespread outage in some regions on Wednesday (November 26). Netflix received a wave of complaints from its users as the platform experienced a sudden outage during the premiere of the finale of much-awaited show Stranger Things. Due to the outage, thousands of Netflix subscribers were not able to stream the show which lead to a flood of posts across social media.

According to a report by outrage tracking website DownDetector, a sharp spike in the outage alerts started shortly after the episode dropped. Users reported that they were facing issues with logging in and complete service failure. As per DownDetector, 55% users complained of video streaming issues, 36% faced server connection issues and 9% were not able to login.

Many users also posted about the outage on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Hashtags such as #NetflixDown and #StrangerThings quickly started trending after the outage. “I waited damn near 3 years for stranger things season 5 and you mean to tell me Netflix is DOWN ??!,” wrote a user on X.

“Well the Netflix servers are down....This was expected with the FINAL season of Stranger Things,” said another user.

Many users also shared the screenshots of error messages, while others joked that the “Upside Down” had taken over Netflix itself.

The timing of the outage was particularly damaging given the cultural weight of the Stranger Things finale, which marks the conclusion of one of Netflix’s most successful franchises. The series has been a cornerstone of the streaming giant’s original programming since its debut in 2016, and the finale was expected to draw record-breaking viewership.
