Anthropic has appointed former Microsoft India Managing Director Irina Ghose as its first Managing Director for India. The appointment comes as the AI startup prepares to establish its first physical office in Bengaluru in early 2026. Ghose, who has three decades of experience in the technology industry, will now be responsible for Anthropic’s regional operations.Ghoshe’s role at Microsoft involved leading the adoption of enterprise AI across key Indian sectors, including banking and financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and government. During her stint at the software behemoth, she worked on building ecosystem partnerships and capabilities in the Indian technology ecosystem, focusing on leveraging technology to create business and societal impact.Anthropic has announced that its India team will work closely with policymakers and academic institutions, strengthen developer engagement, and build partnerships with enterprises and organisations using AI to address local challenges.The company said India ranks second globally in the use of its Claude AI tool. Anthropic's fourth Economic Index showed that Indian users have a notable focus on technical apps, with nearly half of all Claude.ai usage concentrated in computer and mathematical tasks.

In a blog post, Chris Ciauri, MD of International at Anthropic, said, "Irina's expertise in scaling technology businesses and driving enterprise transformation makes her the ideal leader as we expand.
