Matter announces India’s first AI platform for next-gen electric two-wheeler motorcycles: All details
Matter unveiled India's first AI-Defined Vehicle (AIDV) platform at its Technology Day 3.0 event. The company claims this as a significant shift in the design and manufacturing of electric two-wheelers, where artificial intelligence will move to the forefront as the driving technology, rather than just another hardware component. Its solution is expected to support multiple products over the next three to four years, focusing on performance, efficiency, safety, and cost of ownership.
Matter said that AIDVs differ from traditional vehicles in how they operate. Regular motorcycles have fixed performance set during manufacturing, while software-defined vehicles can be updated. AI-defined vehicles are designed to adapt and change throughout their lifespan.
The AI system will manage motor power delivery, battery health, cooling systems, and fault prediction. The vehicle's behaviour can be adjusted based on real-world usage patterns.
Matter's current AERA motorcycle is a software-defined vehicle. It includes a Hypershift gearbox, liquid-cooled motor and battery, and specific battery pack designs. The AERA receives updates through software without hardware modifications.
The company stated that its development will focus on both AI and new materials. The work includes motors without rare-earth materials, battery management systems, and sensor integration. The AI is designed to control how these materials function during operation.
The AIDV platform represents Matter's shift from electric vehicle manufacturing to technology development for two-wheelers. The company plans to release products based on this platform over the next 36-48 months.
Matter also announced plans to expand into five vehicle segments, all built on a shared AI-powered platform covering hardware, software, computing, and data.
These segments include Naked Street Motorcycles, Street Fighter Motorcycles, Adventure (ADV) Motorcycles, Youth-Focused Commuter Motorcycles, and Electric Scooters.
This strategy will allow Matter to address a significant portion of India's two-wheeler market through one core, scalable technology platform.
The company announced more than 400 technology innovations and 97 granted patents, which further emphasized the company's intellectual property and technology base.
With the AIDV platform, Matter has articulated its vision to move from mechanically defined motorcycles to AI-defined electric motorcycles.
Speaking at the event, Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and Group CEO of Matter, said: “Two-wheelers have been mechanically defined for decades. Intelligence-Driven Vehicles change that permanently. When intelligence governs materials, energy, and control—not just software—we unlock vehicles that continuously outperform their own starting point. This is not an EV transition. This is a category reset.”
