Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has announced the appointment of longtime Amazon executive Tom Taylor as the new President and CEO of the $10 billion Bezos Earth Fund. Taylor retired from Amazon in October 2022 after more than two decades of working at the tech giant. Taylor will now lead the philanthropic endeavour which works of combating climate change. This new appointment signals a shift in the leadership of fund, which had previously seen executives primarily from the environmental community.Tom Taylor took to professional networking platform LinkedIn to express his enthusiasm for his new role. “After I retired from Amazon, I followed the good advice to consider this as “Quarter 3” of my life and looked for an opportunity that balanced my desire for both adventure and service. Leading the Bezos Earth Fund is this perfect opportunity – a place where I can bring something to the table, learn from some amazing people, and help the planet now and for future generations,” said Taylor.“I am thrilled to join the Bezos Earth Fund and lead with the bold mandate to invent our way out of Earth’s environmental challenges with a combination of long-term thinking, technical curiosity, and excellent execution. I am excited to work with Jeff and Lauren to implement their vision and grateful to inherit an incredibly capable and mission driven team,” added Taylor.Launched 2020, the Earth Fund has already disbursed $2.3 billion in grants to support climate action, sustainable innovation and biodiversity preservation. Taylor succeeds Andrew Steer, an environmental economist who stepped down earlier this year.
