Elon Musk's X to pay US President Donald Trump $10 million for banning him

Elon Musk's social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has agreed to pay US President Donald Trump $10 million to settle a lawsuit over his ban from the platform following the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. The lawsuit, filed by Trump against Twitter and its former CEO Jack Dorsey, alleged unlawful silencing of conservative viewpoints.As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the settlement comes after Musk reinstated Trump's account in 2022, shortly after acquiring Twitter and rebranding it as X. Despite their close relationship, Trump's legal team decided to move forward with the lawsuit, ultimately reaching the $10 million settlement.This settlement marks the second social media platform to reach an agreement with Trump over the suspension of his accounts. Last month, Meta Platforms agreed to pay Trump $25 million to settle a similar lawsuit regarding his ban from Facebook and Instagram.In December, ABC News settled a defamation lawsuit with Trump for $15 million, pledging to donate the amount to his future presidential foundation and museum.
