Donald Trump wanted Elon Musk to buy his social media platform: All the details

So, get this: last summer, Donald Trump apparently floated the idea of selling his Truth Social platform to Elon Musk. Yeah, the same Musk who snagged Twitter and turned it into X.

According to a report by The Washington Post, Trump was the one who brought it up. Evidently, no deal went down. However, it seems their conversation went beyond just talking shop about Truth Social. The duo apparently chatted about other business stuff and maybe even some political bits.

But this isn't their first rendezvous. Just a while back, they hung out with a bunch of Republican big shots in Florida. Rumour has it, the 2024 presidential election might've come up. Some folks on X were speculating Musk might throw his weight behind Trump, but Musk shut that down real quick, saying he's not backing any major party candidate. However, he has been critical of Joe Biden on his social media platform and even called him a “damp puppet in a human form”.

Trump recently in an interview with NBC News suggested that he did “help” Musk a lot when he was president. “Look, I’ve been friendly with him over the years. I’ve helped him when I was president. I helped him. I’ve liked him,” Trump said.

Truth Social, Trump's brainchild, started off as this beacon of free speech for the far right mainly, but it's been a bumpy ride. It's been in hot water for banning accounts that dissed Trump, and financially, it's been bleeding cash, with losses in the tens of millions. Still, Trump's keeping it alive with his active presence. Trump, as a matter of fact, is more active on his own social networking platform than on Musk’s X.

Musk’s X has seen major changes and controversies since the acquisition by the billionaire. He brought back some far-right accounts, like Alex Jones, and there's been talk about him sharing some dodgy content, too.
