BJP MP in Karnataka makes 'Work from Home' request to Infosys and other IT companies; Cognizant mandates WFH
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bengaluru Central, PC Mohan requested IT companies to consider allowing their employees to work from home. Taking to microblogging platform X (known as Twitter earlier), Mohan wrote: “All companies in Bengaluru, including Infosys, must declare two days of work from home due to rains.”
Known as the silicon valley of India, Bengaluru received 105.5 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period between 8:30 am on Sunday (May 18) and 8:30 am on May 19, marking the second highest rainfall in a day for the city since 2011. The heavy rain has disrupted normal life in Bengaluru, causing delays and difficulties for daily commuters across the city.
As reported by MoneyControl, IT services firm Cognizant also asked its employees to work from home today (May 20) amidst the heavy rainfall. The US-based company employs 40,000 employees in Bengaluru.
Infosys already has a three-day work-from-office policy. While there is no official confirmation, but given the weather conditions, many employees are likely to have chosen not to commute.
According to another Money Control report, IT giant Infosys has given its employees in Bengaluru to work from home today, i.e. May 21. Quoting sources, the report says that the company has sent an email to employees, advising them to work from home if need be.
“In view of the above, all employees may choose to work from home on Wednesday (May 21, 2025) in coordination with respective managers as applicable,” reads the email sent by Infosys to its employees.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru traffic police temporarily closed a stretch of Hosur Road between Silk Board and Rupena Agrahara from 9 AM to 11 AM earlier today due to waterlogging caused by heavy rain.
“Due to heavy flooding, Hosur Road is temporarily closed between Silk Board and Rupena Agrahara. The elevated flyover is also closed. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes and avoid Hosur Road completely,” the advisory read.
The affected route includes the 9.9-km elevated expressway from Central Silk Board Junction to Electronics City. Spread across 903 acres on the Bengaluru-Hosur highway, Electronics City is one of India’s largest electronics industrial parks. It is home to companies such as Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Siemens, and TCS.
In a related news, Forum For IT Employees (FITE) has requested Maharashtra government to "declare mandatory work from home for Hinjawadi IT park", amidst Pune rains. "If you guys have any care of IT employees then plz declare mandatory work from home for Hinjawadi IT park till rains are over & during rainy seasons," it wrote on X marking CM Devendra Fadnavis, CMO Maharashtra and other leaders.
