Amazon launches its first AI-powered ever colour Kindle Scribe: Price, availability and all you need to know
Amazon has launched a completely reimagined lineup of its digital writing device, introducing the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, the first-ever colour e-reader with an AI-powered notebook. The company also launched the next-generation versions of the standard Kindle Scribe. Panos Panay, SVP of devices and services, presented the new devices, highlighting a strategic shift toward integrating productivity tools and advanced artificial intelligence into the Kindle experience.
“The first-ever Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is out now. Lightening fast, paper-like color, smarter AI. Big step forward,” he said in a post on X.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that the company’s “first ever colour Kindle Scribe is here” and “customers are going to really like it.”
“We completely redesigned it from the ground up, and it’s now ultra-thin, writing and sketching feels like it’s happening on paper, and moving between pages is almost instantaneous. The AI we’ve baked in (featuring our Nova models) is especially useful, helping people find their notes, create note summaries, and ask questions of their notes. Think this is gonna change how folks work,” he said in a post on X.
Kindle Scribe: Starts at $499.99.
Kindle Scribe Colorsoft: Starts at $629.99.
Kindle Scribe (no front light): This version will be available in 2026, starting at $429.99.
The full lineup will be available in the UK and Germany next year.
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft delivers a fluid colour writing experience. To ensure colours are gentle on the eyes, Amazon used a custom-built Colorsoft display technology which incorporates a colour filter and light guide with nitride LEDs to enhance colour without the harshness or detail washout of an LCD display.
It gets a new rendering engine that supports the colour display, ensuring writing and drawing remain fast, fluid and natural. Users can now write, draw and annotate using one of 10 pen colours or highlight text in one of 5 highlighter colors.
It gets a 11-inch glare-free display that mirrors the proportions of a sheet of paper, with a new texture-molded glass to improve friction for a natural writing feel. Amazon says that writing and page turns are now 40% faster thanks to a new quad-core chip and the latest Oxide display technology.
Early next year, a feature will enable users to send notes and documents from the Kindle Scribe to Alexa+ to have a conversation about the content.
