Amazon launches Alexa+ personality styles, including one ‘adults only’ option: How it is different from Elon Musk’s Grok
Amazon is giving its AI-powered voice assistant, Alexa+, a makeover with four new “Personality Styles”, allowing users to change how Alexa talks back to them. Among the new options is a “Sassy” setting that includes sharp wit and sarcasm. Essentially, the update doesn’t change what Alexa can do, but it changes how the AI chatbot sounds.

What are the four Personality Styles of Alexa+

Users can now toggle between four distinct moods:Brief: This is for those who hate small talk and do not want extra conversation. In this personality, Alexa becomes direct and efficient, giving just the facts.Chill: This mode turns Alexa into a laid-back friend by using a relaxed tone and conversational language, offering a breezy, low-pressure experience.Sweet: This version makes Alexa as your “biggest cheerleader”, and she responds with warmth, enthusiasm and positivity.Sassy: This style brings “unfiltered personality” with clever comebacks and occasional censored profanity. What makes Alexa+ personality styles differentCreating distinct personality styles isn't just about changing a few words; it requires building a system that understands the nuances of human communication. Each style is built on a foundation of five interconnected dimensions that work together to create different conversational experiences:Expressiveness: ranging from concise to verboseEmotional Openness: reserved to enthusiasticFormality: professional to casualDirectness: diplomatic to bluntHumor: subtle wit to overt sarcasm

How is ‘Sassy personality’ of Alexa+ is different from Grok

At first, “Sassy” mode seems to be like Elon Musk’s AI, Grok, which is famous for its “rebellious” sense of humor. However, Amazon is drawing a very clear line. Unlike Grok, Amazon’s Sassy Alexa remains strictly within safe boundaries.
“Sassy brings unfiltered personality with razor-sharp wit, playful sarcasm, and occasional censored profanity—you asked for it, and we’re delivering it. For those who appreciate humor with an edge, this style delivers entertaining banter and clever comebacks that keep things interesting,” Amazon explains.TechCrunch reported that even in its most unfiltered mode, the AI will not engage in explicit sexual content, hate speech or personal attacks and encouraging illegal activities or self-harm – in easier words Sassy Alexa is meant to be entertaining and playful without becoming offensive. Moreover, the Sassy style is automatically disabled if Amazon Kids mode is turned on. To activate it, users must go through additional security checks within the Alexa app to prove they are an adult.
