Performance

At the heart of the mic is a 10-millimetre condenser capsule, and the voice reproduction is exceptional for its price range. The sound it captures is crisp, detailed and well-balanced. We used it during virtual calls in a newsroom, and during a voiceover. What stood out the most during testing was the noise handling. Ceiling fans, background chatter, and general noise were all noticeably suppressed. The mic focuses on your voice and cuts out a good deal of everything else.

The physical mute button, as simple as it sounds, turns out to be one of the most valuable features here. No fumbling through software – just one click to silence, and one click to come back.

Who is this mic for

The HD 500 BAM sits in an interesting middle ground. It is not a USB studio microphone for podcasters, and it is not a budget headset mic for casual use. It has a specific use – to turn a good pair of headphones you already own into a professional communication tool.
