Samsung Galaxy A37 5G first impressions
We spent a short time with the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant (priced at Rs 47,499) in Awesome Lavender colour of the Galaxy A37 5G, using it for daily tasks like calls, browsing, streaming, and some casual gaming. Here are our early impressions based on initial usage.
Design and display
The Galaxy A37 5G follows Samsung’s clean and minimal design language. The phone feels solid in hand, with Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on both the front and back adding to its durability. Despite the glass build, weight distribution feels balanced, making it comfortable for extended usage.
Samsung has also included an IP68 rating, which adds a layer of protection against dust and water. This makes the device feel more reliable for everyday scenarios.
The display offers a 120Hz refresh rate, and in early use, scrolling and animations felt smooth. Vision Booster support and up to 1900 nits peak brightness help with visibility outdoors. During brief outdoor usage, the screen is readable under direct sunlight. We will evaluate colour accuracy and brightness consistency further in the full review.
Performance and software
We also tried some light gaming sessions, and performance remained stable without major frame drops. While this is not positioned as a gaming-centric device, it seems capable of handling casual gaming comfortably.
On the software side, the phone runs One UI 8.5. The interface feels familiar and easy to navigate. Samsung has included AI-backed features such as Bixby, Gemini integration, and tools like Object Eraser. The Object Eraser worked quickly in our brief testing, and being able to use it offline is a practical addition.
Camera
The Galaxy A37 5G features a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilisation, along with an 8MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro lens. There is also a 12MP front camera for selfies.
In early testing, the primary camera captured images with balanced colours and decent detail in daylight conditions. The presence of OIS helps with stability, especially in video recording. The ultra-wide camera is usable, though there is a noticeable drop in detail compared to the main sensor.
Samsung’s AI features like Best Face and Object Eraser add some flexibility to editing. The Best Face feature, in particular, seems useful for group shots. Low-light performance showed some improvement, but a deeper evaluation will follow in the full review.
Battery
The Galaxy A37 5G packs a 5000mAh battery with support for 45W charging. In our short usage period, the phone comfortably lasted a full day with mixed usage including streaming, browsing, and calls.
Charging speeds are in line with what we typically see in this segment. While not the fastest, it appears adequate for daily use. We will test long-term battery performance and charging efficiency in more detail in the complete review.
What we think
The Samsung Galaxy A37 5G appears to be a balanced mid-range option based on our initial experience. It offers a durable build, a smooth display, stable day-to-day performance, and a camera setup that works well in good lighting conditions.
